Mind of Stone

The Silverstone Saga: Volume I

Lady Sariah was born a psion, destined to guide and govern the people of Doryn. While all psions can read memories, shape emotions, and communicate telepathically, only a few are blessed with the rare gift of an unreadable mind—and Sariah is one of them. When a long-standing grudge against her family enables the church to betroth her to an infamous libertine in the faraway Northlands, Sariah’s only prospect for happiness lies in bringing a psion’s guardianship to the long-neglected land. To her dismay, her betrothed proves more malicious than she could have imagined. Knowing that she is prohibited from using her powers on their hated lord, the townspeople take matters into their own hands and arrange his death on her wedding night. Conflicted but grateful, Sariah conceals the murder, earning the loyalty of her new people and accepting the mantle of the Lady of Fernhaven.

However, just as she settles into her new life, she makes an unsettling discovery: the minds of the Northlanders have been elegantly altered to forget something from their past. Sariah tracks their fragmented memories to a hidden fortress, built to protect Doryn from what must have been a terrible enemy—an enemy that has just returned. As foreign armies sweep across the land, Sariah rushes to hide her people in the forgotten fortress. While her people are saved, Sariah is captured by Brenden Tayne, a frustratingly determined Lord General who happens to be the only Galian strong enough to bind her. Convinced that she is more important than she claims, Brenden takes her across the sea to be presented to his king.

Cut off from her powers and dragged away from everything she holds dear, Sariah struggles to navigate foreign culture, court intrigue, and her own grudging respect for this enemy society. As she slowly acknowledges that Galia isn’t the draconian place she imagined, she realizes that, like the Northlanders, the Galians have also been made to forget their nations’ shared history. When the callous Archbishop begins to suspect that Sariah knows more than she should, he condemns her to death—not only to prevent her from uncovering a centuries-old conspiracy, but his own involvement in their world’s twisted and sinister past.

Sariah’s only hope of surviving the death sentence and returning home to prevent another cycle of war, death, and destruction lies with Brenden Tayne, and in whether he has fallen in love with her as she has fallen in love with him.

Mind of Stone is a fantasy of 126,000 words and the first book in The Silverstone Saga, an epic series following the journey of Lady Sariah as she discovers the true origin of her world and the extraordinary powers she wields. The second book of the saga is also complete and the third is currently underway.
